What will you be doing?
At Galamad Aerospace, we are building satellites from scratch. We have different people on the team in-charge of different sub-systems: communications, propulsion, computers, pointing, power management etc. As a mechanical engineer, you will be working with people from every subsystem to design, fabricate, and test the physical structure and mechanisms for of the satellite that accounts for the mechanical requirements of all the subsystems. You would also be working on developing inhouse mechanical tests to evaluate the systems and structure before it goes for certification testing. We have some industry expertise on the team and will be guiding you through the intricacies of the space industry. It isn’t as intimidating as it sounds…
What is required of you?
- General Mechanical Experience
- Sound understanding of structural mechanics, kinematics, and basic heat transfer. (Deeper understanding of thermodynamics and thermal radiation preferred)
- Experience with sheet metal parts design and manufacturing
- Experience with 3D printing using FDM and experience with other conventional manufacturing processes like laser cutting and CNC machining
- Experience with CAD (Fusion360/SolidWorks?FreeCAD) Structural design and simulation experience.
- Visualizing and building complex assemblies with interlocking and mating parts.
- Experimentation and testing for mechanical systems for evaluation and iterative design improvements.
- Preferred:
- Previous experience building satellite parts or any space grade components that have been sent to space
- Experience with high pressure systems (e.g. tanks, pipes, valves) design
Other Experience:
- Experience with Python programming and using GitHub.
- Experience creating detailed reports summarizing the design decision making and recording assembly process, BOM and more.
What is in it for you?
- Multi-disciplinary experience: This work introduces you to a world of possibilities in a variety of industries including avionics, power management, radiation protection, and more in addition to the space industry itself.
- Multi-disciplinary skills: Apart from honing your mechanical design and manufacturing skills, you learn to compute design requirements based on orbital mechanics, satellite communication and pointing, thermal management, and radiation protection. You will be working in the space industry and sending items to outer space!
- A team that tries to be as humane as possible. We may not be your blood family but it is our honest hope that your time with us will be nurturing, fun, and the best part of your day.
